France Makes Coaching Changes

Thierry Henry's Former Assistant Gerald Baticle Appointed France U21 Coach

France Makes Coaching Changes

The French Football Federation (FFF) has announced several coaching changes, including the appointment of Gerald Baticle as the new coach of the France Under-21 team.

Baticle, who was previously an assistant coach to Thierry Henry, will take over from Sylvain Ripoll, who has been promoted to the role of assistant coach to the senior team.

Henry Departs U21 Post

Henry, who had been in charge of the U21s since 2019, has decided to leave his post to pursue other opportunities.

Under Henry's leadership, the U21s reached the semi-finals of the 2021 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

Baticle's Background

Baticle, a former defender, has a wealth of coaching experience, having previously worked as an assistant coach with Lyon, Lille, and the French national team.

He also had a successful playing career, winning the Ligue 1 title with Lyon in 2002 and 2003.

Other Coaching Changes

In addition to the appointment of Baticle, the FFF has also made changes to the coaching staff of the France women's team.

Corinne Diacre remains as head coach, but Sonia Bompastor has been appointed as her new assistant.

Bompastor, a former France international, has a wealth of experience as a coach, having won the UEFA Women's Champions League with Lyon in 2020 and 2022.
