16,234 Pounds Recalled from 11 States

In a major food safety concern, Walmart has initiated a nationwide recall of over 16,234 pounds of raw ground beef due to fears of E. coli contamination. The recall affects ground beef products processed at the Cargill Meat Solutions facility in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, between March 1st and March 13th, 2024.

Affected Products and Distribution

The recalled ground beef products were distributed to Walmart stores in 11 states, including:

  • Arkansas
  • California
  • Florida
  • Georgia
  • Illinois
  • Maryland
  • Missouri
  • Oklahoma
  • Pennsylvania
  • South Carolina
  • Texas

The recalled ground beef was packaged in trays with establishment number EST. 969.

Symptoms of E. Coli Infection

E. coli contamination can cause severe illness, including abdominal cramps, diarrhea (often bloody), fever, and vomiting. In severe cases, it can lead to kidney failure and even death. Symptoms usually appear within 3-4 days after consuming contaminated food.

Consumers Advised to Check Packages and Dispose of Affected Products

Consumers are strongly advised to check their refrigerators and freezers for the recalled ground beef products. If any of the affected products are found, they should be disposed of immediately. Walmart has also issued a full refund for any returned recalled products.

Consumers with questions or concerns can contact Cargill Meat Solutions at 1-877-551-3194 or Walmart at 1-800-925-6278.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is closely monitoring the situation and working to ensure the safety of the nation's food supply.
