Allen explained that the dog, a 10-month-old rescue named Maggie May, was not a good fit for her family. She said that the dog was destructive and had bitten her daughter.

Animal rights charity PETA has expressed disappointment over Allen's decision to return the dog. In an open letter to Allen, PETA said that it was "appalled" to hear that she had returned Maggie May to a shelter.
